webroot definition moved from project.json to hosting.json #94

"webroot": "wwwroot" has been moved from the project.json file to the adjacent hosting.json. This is used to define where static content should be served from. The default logic has also been updated such that many apps won't need to set this value.

Defaults:

  • If hosting.json exists and defines "webroot", use it.
  • Else if the "wwwroot" directory exists, use it as the webroot.
  • Default to the application root (normally the parent directory of wwwroot).

Applications should remove "webroot" from their project.json files. It only need to be added to hosting.json if the value is not wwwroot, or if the wwwroot directory is empty and may be excluded from source control.
