Steps to reproduce

Repository with code sample

The issue

Using the sample db structure from : https://docs.efproject.net/en/latest/platforms/aspnetcore/existing-db.html

Run the code on windows, works just fine. Set connection string to connect to a SQL Server 2008 db instance using username / password.

Run the code on Linux, gives the following error:

Exception message: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Connection Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed during the post-login phase. The connection could have timed out while waiting for server to complete the login process and respond; Or it could have timed out while attempting to create multiple active connections. Just verified, this problem does not affect SQL Server 2012. Only 2008 and below it seems. I don't have a 2008 R2 server around to test that with.

Possibly related. I'll see if I can install the patch and see if that fixes it.

Server was running SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3, I've updated it to Service Pack 4, and that's resolved the issue. Maybe this should be documented somewhere as a known issue that SQL Server 2008 SP4 is a minimum requirement for Linux.
