A full-time research assistant position is available in the Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics to study protein sorting and membrane trafficking in the baker's yeast S. cerevisiae. Additional information on the area of interest can be viewed at the following website http://sgi.bls.umkc.edu/acooper/. Applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics or a related field and a knowledge of general biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Preference will be given to those with experience in DNA cloning techniques, protein analysis by SDS-PAGE and western blot, bacterial transformations and basic computing skills. In addition to undertaking a supervised research project, applicants should also be able to coordinate general laboratory functions including use of laboratory equipment, media preparation and purchasing and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The position is available immediately, but the start date could be delayed as late as May 17, 1999.
| |

A position is available immediately to study either: (1) subunit folding and dynamics in mechanisms of virus assembly, or (2) structural determinants of recognition in DNA-protein complexes. Research involves the use of Raman and UV-resonance Raman spectroscopy to probe biomolecular structure/function relationships. Experience in protein expression systems or protein/DNA isolation and characterization is required. English proficiency is essential, as some supervision of graduate students is expected. Please send resumé and have three letters of reference forwarded to:

An opening for a Full Professor is now available as part of our Program of Eminence in Molecular Recognition in Biological Systems. Applicants must have a national reputation, a proven ability to attract extramural funds, and a vigorous, productive research program, preferably in the areas of structural biology or eucaryotic molecular genetics. Other areas, particularly those involving multidisciplinary research, will also be considered. Applicants should be willing to participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching, have appropriate experience in an academic setting, and be eager to assume a leadership role commensurate with this rank. Generous start-up package and lab space are available. Review of applications will begin as soon as complete materials are received and will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants should send a complete curriculum vitae, research prospectus, three representative publications, and the names and addresses (including e-mail) of four references to:
