<p> <font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b>PACMEDNET</b>
is a congressionally directed, automation and telecommunications
project focused in the Pacific Region. PACMEDNET focuses on
creating information sharing between and among heterogeneous
databases as well as identifying the location of the information
unique to each patient. Through creation of an interface engine,
PACMEDNET has successfully shared information between multiple
Composite Health Care System sites and the Department of Veteran's
Affairs Vista System (formerly Defense Health Care Program
(DHCP)). Through creation of a Master Subject Index (MSI),
the project has provided electronic pointers to patient information
through use of a Master Patient Locator. To insure appropriate
protection of patient information the MSI also tracks provider
access privileges to virtual data through the Master Provider
Index. These initiatives are done for the purpose of transferring
patient medical data (e.g. text, image, video, sound, wave
form data, etc.) among military and DVA medical treatment
facilities and all necessary theater locations for readiness
posture/peacetime, military operations other than war, lesser
regional conflict, and major regional conflicts. </font><br>
