| The Heckler and Koch name has become famous for innovative weapon designs combined with quality and reliability in action. Spanning a variety of firearms including the USP and SOCOM series of pistols, to the battle-tested long rifles like the G3 and PSG1, HK has continually demonstrated it's design and manufacturing acumen. Perhaps the most common submachine gun found among Special Operations experts is the HK MP5 series. This modular design concept allows the user to change the configuration of the gun in a very short period of time to match tactical demands. Changes such as stock fixtures, firing configuration and muzzle attachments allow tactical operators a choice that will give them an edge in accomplishing their mission objective. The MP5 series offers mobility, a high rate-of-fire and easy serviceability not to mention accuracy in a compact design. Police departments and federal agencies have also adopted the MP5 series because of it's flexibility toward tactical needs. <P> | |
| Tokyo-Marui was well aware of the popularity and service history of the MP5's when designing the Airsoft duplicate of these world-renowned firearms. The overall appearance of the A4 model mounted with a fixed stock is identical to the real gun in every respect and features true one-to-one scale as the original. The fixed stock is a plastic material very similar to the polymer plastics used in the handguards, trigger group and fixed stock of the real gun. The MP5-A4 further adheres to the commonality of parts in this family to interchange readily with the basic gun such as a flashlight forearm adapter and Claw-type scope mount. These accessories can add both tactical value and utility to this long-rifle. By adding a low magnification scope to this full-sized, fixed stock rifle, the combat participant can take advantage of long-range accuracy. <P> | |
| Individuals who have handled the real MP5 will be amazed that the features and function are faithfully reproduced in the receiver, stocks and other details of this Airsoft gun. The receiver is finished in a lightly textured 'glazed paint' look, although it's molded in solid black plastic throughout. Details are as specific as the presence of 'weld marks' which are molded into the correct position on the plastic receiver and correspond exactly to those on the original. The fixed rear stock and front forearm are accurately reproduced with a slight texturing to the material, making it comfortable to hold and grasp. The overall size and dimensions match precisely and make the airgun nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. The magazine drops free of the receiver when pushing forward on the 'paddle' or can also be actuated by the right side, receiver-mounted button and makes for fast field reloading. The paddle is perfectly placed to allow the user to push forward with the first finger of the firing hand, dropping the empty magazine clear while leaving the free hand available to position the next magazine. With practice this 'tactical reload' can be accomplished in a fraction of a second. In addition, the magazine is stamped correctly with '9mm' and 'IF' - manufacturing codes which are present on the magazines of the real gun. While handloading of BB's is relatively easy in the field, the loading tool (and clearing rod) provided with the gun make this task much more manageable. Handloading can be accomplished at a much slower rate during combat in exactly the same manner as that of loading a real magazine - one round at a time, pushed through the top of the magazine. <P> | |
| To extend range accuracy, the HOP-UP mechanism is located at the rear of the barrel with a small lever on the left side of the receiver which is partially covered by the front handguard. This lever is moved forward to reduce the hop-effect and rearward to increase backspin and impart greater lift to the BB. This adjustment is usually made by firing the airgun with a full magazine at a target that is located at the maximum effective range that the user intends to engage opponents. By firing without moving the gun, the HOP-UP lever can be manipulated in small increments to achieve the required setting. The perfect HOP setting on this particular MP5 is exactly centered, which imparts slight backspin. The HOP setting can also be adjusted easily in the field to affect the flight path of differing weights of BB's depending on foliage and other variables. <P> | |
| The metal muzzle of this A4 variant has been cast with the HK standard, 3-lug attachment point for flash suppressors and silencer/tracer units to be quickly installed and removed. This attachment point allows the user to install an aftermarket Tokyo-Marui tracer unit which can fire luminous BB's at a full-automatic rate and create some very exciting nighttime fun. The additional length of the 'silencer' does not affect the pressure or muzzle velocity of the BB's since it's barrel diameter is too large to maintain pressure behind the BB. More for effect and having some tactical value during night skirmishing, the tracer attachment makes an excellent visual customization to this airgun. <P> | |
| Although the MP5-A4 is a fixed-stock gun, the battery is located in the front handguard and is a 600 mAh, 8.4 Volt 'Mini' -type battery. The rear of the forearm stock is open, allowing for visual confirmation of the battery in the compartment. This battery should deliver close to 1000 rounds of repeat fire, somewhat reduced if using constant full-automatic fire. The battery is easy to access and change, and this can be accomplished by removal of the front handguard assembly after first removing the single stock pin which retains it. The battery and connectors secure a tight fit, allowing for silent deployment of the airgun during Airsoft combat. The battery size can easily be upgraded by installing a Tokyo-Marui wiring harness to reach the rear stock and then purchasing a 1200 mAh, 8.4 Volt battery to replace the smaller, front-mounted 'Mini' battery. This conversion will provide much greater fire duration and add to the airgun's overall weight. The smaller battery is a good match for the MP5-A4 version, however, since it's primary role is to be a CQB gun or as a back-up to a larger battle rifle. Whether the A4 is going to be the primary gun or a back-up option, the MP5 design by Tokyo-Marui is hard to beat for size and Rate-Of-Fire. <P> | |
| Firing this AEG is identical to the other MP5 variants made by Tokyo-Marui as they all share the same mechanical design with the exception of the MP5K-PDW and 'Navy' version. The EG560 motor delivers a fast rate-of-fire, identical to the full-size MP5 at approximately 650-700 rounds-per-minute. This firing rate is easily controllable in the airgun and empties the standard 50 BB magazine in less than 5 seconds. The battery supplies adequate current to maintain this rate of fire for it's entire duration, and is not likely to overheat the motor or wiring/switching mechanisms. In all, the sound of a full-automatic airgun is really something to be heard rather than written about and is hard to describe. Spare magazines are a must with this type of gun, since firing at full-auto is addictive and is guaranteed to bring a smile to any face.
