| Our Future Course</strong></font><b></p> | |

| District’s strategic plan is based on the belief that we determine our schools’ | |
| future and the best education for our youth by involving the community in the planning | |
| process. This brings together all of our resources to achieve the district’s goals | |
| and to provide our students and future citizens the best possible education. </font></p> | |
| <p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font color="#4D4D4D">We began in August 15, 1996, when the Laredo ISD | |
| school board made a commitment to strategic planning. A planning team of individuals from | |
| the schools and community participated in four days of discussion in October and November | |
| to outline the strategic plan and contribute ideas and opinions. Team members shared their | |
| vision for our students, schools, and community. They agreed on their shared values, | |
| mission, district goals, desired student outcomes, and critical issues. Team members | |
| looked at our schools in terms of what currently works well and what needs more attention. | |
| From this, members identified the critical issues which the school district should address | |
| as it moves forward in its improvement efforts.</font></p> | |
| <p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font color="#0000A0">The next phase of our strategic planning began | |
| with the formation of action teams of community and school volunteers. They researched and | |
| studied the district’s goals, developed the best ideas and identified what actions | |
| would accomplish the goals. The results were presented to the school board on September | |
| 12, 1997.</font></p> | |
| <p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font color="#4D4D4D">Once the action plans were approved, the next | |
| phase involved implementation teams. These teams developed operational plans describing | |
| how the best ideas would be implemented in the district, what the priorities should be, | |
| and what implementation schedule was best. The completed strategic plan was then presented | |
| to the school board in the Spring of 1998.</font></p> | |
| <p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font color="#0000A0">To ensure that we keep the plan alive, we will | |
| involve the original planning team and members of the District Educational Improvement | |
| Council in an annual review to determine which of our actions have been successful and | |
| which need more attention. This intent, coupled with the use of the strategic plan by the | |
| district’s thirty campuses as their baseline guide, should facilitate LISD’s | |
| continuing improvement work record. We realize the best is yet to come, an expectation | |
| which the district’s strategic plan will facilitate and strengthen.</font></font></p> | |
