a major force in the global economy. Rapid economic growth in this home
to more than one-fifth of the world's population has placed it among the
leading recipients of American, European and Japanese investment. China's
export trade surplus with the United States rivals that of Japan. Trade
relations with China have become a "front burner" issue not only
in the United States, but in numerous other countries as these trade and
investment relations have developed.

This conference brings
together government and business leaders who are directly involved in trade
relations with China as well as some of the world's leading international
economists and international trade lawyers. These leading figures will
examine the critical issues in China-U.S. trade relations, China's accession
to the World Trade Organization, and China's role in the world trading
system. Included in the program are representatives of some of the major
U.S. corporations that already have a presence in China. The issues to
be discussed are of the greatest importance to business executives doing
or contemplating doing business in China or Asia, to international lawyers
representing such businesses, and to students of international law and
international relations.
