<font SIZE="2" face="Times New Roman">1886 was a year that saw an emergence of new ideas
and a growth of new concepts. Grover Cleveland was president and was the first president
to marry while in office. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated and the novel, Dr. Jeckyll
and Mr. Hyde had been published and was fast becoming a classic. The labor forces were
beginning to see the need to unite and today's labor unions resulted from that unrest.
James A. Naismith didn't invent basketball until 1892 and it wasn't until 1901 that
Indiana University won its first ever game, defeating Wabash, 20-17. </font><font SIZE="2"><p
ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font face="Times New Roman">In Salem, Indiana, history was also being
made. A group of twelve investors saw a need to provide financing for the purchase and the
building of homes in the Salem area and founded the Salem Building Loan Fund and Savings
Association in April, 1886. The Association remained on the Salem public square for 94
years until its move to the current location at 300 North Water Street in 1980. </font></p>
<p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font face="Times New Roman">Several name changes have taken place over
the years. In 1964 the name was changed to Salem Savings and Loan Association in an effort
to emphasize the need to save for the future; in 1981 to Mid-Southern Federal Savings and
Loan Association as a result of conversion to a Federal Charter; and, in April 1988, to
Mid-Southern Savings Bank, FSB to more accurately describe the evolution of the banking
industry and the products and services that are offered today.</font></p>
<p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font face="Times New Roman">As the 21<sup>st</sup> century dawns, the
Board of Directors and employees strive to meet the ever changing needs of the community
through a wide range of banking services and personal attention to detail. Our customers
are the absolute key to our success and we are continually grateful for their support. </font></p>
<p ALIGN="JUSTIFY"><font face="Times New Roman">We are just as dedicated now as in 1886 to
provide area residents the financing to purchase their dream home at the most reasonable
costs, while offering attractive interest rates on savings accounts and certificates of
deposit. As the wants and needs of families have changed throughout the years, it has been
our goal to consistently strive to meet those needs with a variety of programs, provide
the personal service our customers deserve and to continue to carry on the family
tradition of serving the community. We're proud to be the only locally owned banking
institution in the area dedicated to doing that. </font></font></p>
