Hirudo medicinalis is proper name of the leech used to decongest tissue. The most common
indication is for replanted digits when the veins are too small to allow proper egress of
blood. The leech isapplied every 5 or 6 hours for a day or more until the body has created
enough alternate venous chanels that congestion doesn't occur. This technique was used
recently -&nbsp; leeches were applied for almost 10 days to save the little finger of a
two year old child. the finger was accidentally amputated at the hand level in a bike
