| <P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">The music courses that are offered are sufficient for a major sequence in music. A student would need to take the Music Theory I course for one year and receive one credit. The other two units can come from any combination of the remaining course offerings listed. Meeting these requirements will afford a student the opportunity to earn a Regents Diploma with a music major.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">721F SELECT CHOIR</U> Open to outstanding singers in Glen Cove High School by audition with the choir teacher. A greater variety of more difficult music will constitute this curriculum and performances. Choir members are eligible to audition for Nassau County High School Chorus, and the New York All-State Choirs. Besides singing at school concerts, the chorus performs when requested at various special events and meetings in and outside of school. 1 Credit.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">722 CONCERT CHOIR</U> This course is open to students who <U>must</U> pass a simple audition. Music sung represents all styles and provides a broad basis for cultural enrichment. Choir members are eligible to audition for Nassau County High School Chorus, and the New York All-State Choirs. Besides singing at school concerts, the chorus performs when requested at various special events and meetings in and outside of school. 1 Credit.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">741 WIND ENSEMBLE</U> Admission into group is by audition only. This is a performance group of advanced players of high calibre. Students participate in the Marching Band, at home games, parades, after school practices and one (1) period rehearsals on all days of the six day cycle. Only open to students in grades 10, 11 and 12. No Exceptions. 1 Credit.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">723 CONCERT BAND</U> Membership consists of selected instrumentalists usually reserved for those wind and percussion performers who have had previous training and experience. The music performed is of medium difficulty level with the main objective being the advancement of each student's ability level on his/her instrument. Students participate in the Marching Band, at home games, parades, after school practices and one (1) period rehearsals on all days of the six-day cycle. 1 Credit.</P> | |

Rehearsals are scheduled in the evening, one per week of three hours duration. This group performs in the Spring Concert. ½ Credit.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">726/728/738 THEORY-INDEPENDENT STUDY I, II & III</U> (R) Through the use of programmed texts and tape recordings students can study the theory of music on their own with the teacher's assistance when necessary. An appointment is made between the student and teacher each week to assist in evaluating progress. An interview with the Music Department is required before acceptance. 1 Credit. (full year)</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">729 PRIVATE MUSIC STUDY</U> A student studying privately with a qualified music teacher must take one lesson a week for not less than 30 minutes in length for a minimum of 36 weeks during the school year, plus a minimum of five hours practice a week. Applications may be obtained in the music department at the beginning of the school year. Membership in either Band, Choir, Music Theory, Electronic Music, or Stage Band is mandatory for this program. ½ Credit.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">750 CONCEPTS & FUNDAMENTALS OF JAZZ</U> Open to all students who play an instrument (vocalists also) and <U>read music</U>. Through the use of recordings, transcriptions, and literature the students will receive a hands on appreciation and understanding of the history, styles, improvisational techniques, and musical forms that corresppond with the evolution of jazz. A ½ credit, offered everyday of the 6 day cycle. One semester - first and second semester.</P> | |

| <U><P ALIGN="JUSTIFY">733 VOCAL COACHING</U> Students learn proper vocal techniques related to breathing, tone quality, style, and interpretation. Attention is given to develop a repertoire of music for each student's special interests and needs. Appropriate popular selections are included with standard songs from the NYSSMA manual in preparation for competition and individual solo work. Students must be registered in either Select Choir (721) or Concert Choir (722). ½ Credit.</P> | |

This is the <U>only</U> course in music which will suffice for the Regents one credit of music and/or art credit, unless a student is in band or choir. All are welcome. 1 Credit. This course is for advanced study and discussion of the periods and styles of music, and their relationships to other humanities subjects. This group will participate in the trips that course #734 take. It will meet every other day in the cycle or as determined by the instructor. ½ Credit.
