<h2><font color="#808080"><a name="programs">Work, Education, and Treatment</a> Programs</font></h2>
<h3>Work Programs</h3>
<p>All units at ASPC-PV utilize inmate workers in a variety of jobs that are needed to
assist in the functioning and operation of the facility. Arizona Law requires that all
able bodied inmates work. The pay scale for most institutional jobs ranges between 10
cents and 50 cents per hour. The majority of jobs are to be found in the following areas:
kitchen work, groundskeeping, maintenance, building porters/janitors, clerks, and
recreation aides. </p>
<p>The Department has established some limited/specialized contracts with outside entities
through Arizona Correctional Industries which allows some inmates to earn more than 50
cents per hour. A listing of these work programs can be found under the heading for each
unit where they operate. Our Complex Detention Unit also has a Hard Labor Crew that works
outside the complex under restraints and armed supervision. &nbsp;</p>

<h3>Education Programs</h3>
<p>Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are
available to all inmates at all the units at ASPC-PV. All inmates committed to the
Department after July 1, 1997 must be enrolled in the Department's ABE Literacy Program if
it has been determined that they are unable to function at the 8th grade level. They must
also progress beyond the 8th grade level in order to be eligible to receive anything more
than the base pay for any job to which they are assigned. </p>
<p>Vocational education programs are available to inmates who qualify through Rio Solado
Community College. The Department has a contract with Rio Solado Community College to
provide a limited selection of vocational classes to inmates including computers and legal
research. The San Pedro, Santa Cruz, and Lumley Units have classes in substance education.
&nbsp; Additionally, the Lumley Unit offers classes in electronics and graphic arts. </p>
<h3>Treatment Programs</h3>
<p>Each Unit at ASPC-PV provides basic medical and dental care to all of its inmates.
Mental health services and psychotropic medications are provided as needed. Substance
abuse services are also available in a variety of formats. The most prevalent vehicles
utilized to address substance abuse problems are offered via Alcoholics Anonymous,
Narcotics Anonymous, and Hazelden Designs for Better Living and Substance Abuse programs. <br>
