for the Office of Substance Abuse Services</em></strong></font></p>
<p>In an ongoing effort to improve and enhance ADC's drug and alcohol treatment
capability, the Office of Substance Abuse Services will undertake steps to achieve the
following long-term goals, subject to resource availability:<ul>
<li>Develop and implement a core of standardized intervention and education programs to
serve as pre-treatment services available to inmates Department-wide. These programs may
be delivered by either para-professionals or professionally-credentialed Correctional
Addictions Officers.<br WP="BR2">
</li>
<li>Write and implement a catalog of elective AOD-related courses to be offered by
professionally-credentialed Correctional Addictions Officers at various prisons statewide.<br WP="BR2">
</li>
<li>Seek grants or other funding sources to accomplish the following:</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Establish a drug and alcohol treatment unit that specializes in a clientele with
co-morbid drug addiction and mental health issues.<br>
</li>
<li>Establish a drug and alcohol treatment unit that specializes in treating sex offenders.<br>
</li>
<li>Design and implement an initial intake system capable of matching inmates with the most
appropriate AOD intervention, pre-treatment, and treatment for their individual needs.<br>
</li>
<li>Assure ongoing professional development/training for ADC para-professional and
professional AOD counseling staff.<br>
</li>
<li>Assure ongoing AOD education for all Department staff, but particularly for those who
work in prison treatment units and/or have drug-affected inmates on their caseloads.<blockquote>
