<P>The British government's <A href=http://news6.thdo.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/background_briefings/your_nhs/newsid_86000/86100.stm>National Health Service</A> announced today that it will be sending 'action teams' into seven hospitals after figures revealed severe waiting list problems. According to <A href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_869000/869511.stm>this BBC news story</A>, 444,000 patients have been on waiting lists for outpatient treatment longer than 13 weeks, and one patient is reported as waiting longer than 18 months for inpatient treatment. This is the British government's latest attempt to turn around the country's <A href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_252000/252662.stm>crisis-ridden health care system</A>.</P>
<P>And to think that there are those who want a system like this in the United States...</P>

The UK National Health Service has a problem, but it is not because it is government-run. Indeed UK, which is the European country which tries harder to imitate the USA, has in the past years tried to limit the intervention of government in health care system, and rely more on private insurances.

As a result, the newly impoverished state care systems degraded. Hardly a surprise. Now it is an academical example for all the European countries of what *not* to do.

444,000 patients have been on waiting lists for
outpatient treatment longer than 13 weeks, but how much does a patient without insurance wait in the US ? Or will he simply wait until he dies when treatments are too expensive ? Or does the state still save the poorest people ?

BTW, with average 8.6% GDP spent of health care, European people live better than the US people (with 14% GDP) <strong>on average</strong>.
