<P>Donald and Doris Fisher, owners of the Gap clothing chain, have given $15 million in seed money to the newly-formed KIPP Foundation to <A HREF=http://www.nytimes.com/library/national/081600school-kipp-edu.html>spread a successful charter school program</A> to urban centers across the U.S. KIPP, which stands for Knowledge is Power Program, was founded by Michael Feinberg and David Levin, and operates widely-acclaimed middle schools in Houston, Texas and Bronx, NYC.</P>
<P>The article mentions several other growing national networks of charter schools, private schools and school management companies including Edison Schools, Success For All, Hirsch Core Knowledge schools, Thomas Sizer's Coalition of Essential Schools, and Replications, Inc. Add to that the firestorm over <A HREF=http://www.38yes.com/>Proposition 38</A> (vouchers) in California, and it seems to me that some big changes are in store for our country's K-12 education system.</P>
