Im April/Mai 2000 startete die Verlagsgruppe NEWS eine PC-Offensive in Österreich. Ziel war es, Kunden über ein interessantes Angebot langfristig an den Verlag zu binden. Im Zuge dieser Aktion wurden 5000 PCs von Fujitsu Siemens Computer mit vorinstalliertem SuSE Linux 6.4 ausgeliefert.
<br><br>
Die Linux-Distribution wurde von SuSE speziell auf die Hardware abgestimmt und auf Wunsch von NEWS zusammengestellt. Adressaten dieser Aktion waren Haushalte, die noch über keinen PC verfügen. Die SuSE Linux-Version wurde speziell auf diese Zielgruppe ausgelegt, so dass die Kunden nach Aufbau des PC's sofort einen betriebsbereiten, multimediafähigen Rechner mit Internetzugang und Office-Paket zur Verfügung hatten. Diese Aktion war nach Art und Umfang die erste in Europa, die im Linux-Bereich gezielt den Homeuser adressierte.
