considerablemente la configuración de tarjetas de sonido.
Además durante la instalación con YaST2, puede configurar

href="http://www.suse.de/en/produkte/susesoft/linux/gifs/screenshots/KDE_SuSE_Desktop.gif">SuSE
KDE desktop</A>, diseñado especialmente por SuSE para su
versión 6.4. Éste proporciona un escritorio funcional que
beneficiará tanto a profesionales como a los nuevos usuarios.
Por ejemplo, cualquier partición de Windows que se encuentre
en el sistema se muestra automáticamente en el escritorio, y
cualquier archivo imprimible se puede enviar a la impresora
sólo seleccionándolo con el ratón y arrastrándolo hasta el
icono de impresora. También se incluyen menús de selección
rápida y se posibilita la visualización de todas las
aplicaciones instaladas en el ordenador también por medio de
menús.</font> </P>
<P><font size="2">Durante la instalación de software, puede elegir entre
diferentes instalaciones preconfiguradas, pero también puede
seleccionar cualquier paquete que desee instalar
individualmente. Para los usuarios experimentados de SuSE
Linux sigue estando disponible la herramienta de configuración
original de SuSE, YaST1, con todas sus prestaciones para
instalación, actualizaciones y administración del sistema.</font>

<P><font size="2">Igualmente nuevo es el Quick Install Manual de 64 páginas.
Mediante capturas de pantalla que muestran el proceso de
instalación, guía a los nuevos usuarios de Linux paso a paso a
través de la instalación con YaST2. Para más detalles, también
le incluimos el manual de SuSE Linux en Español, completamente
revisado para incluir información nueva y actualizada sobre
temas como notebooks y PCMCIA, concepto de arranque,
configuración de escritorio con susewm y masquerading.</font> </P>
<H3><font size="2">Para profesionales</font></H3>
<P><font size="2">Si utiliza SuSE Linux como sistema operativo en su
servidor, SuSE Linux 6.4 le ofrece mejoras significantes. SuSE
ha añadido numerosas utilidades al kernel 2.2.14. Por primera
vez, se soporta memoria hasta de 3.5 GB. Juntamente con el
soporte para raw-devices para bases de datos, hace de SuSE
Linux la plataforma ideal para grandes bases de datos y
soluciones de comercio electrónico o e-commerce.</font>
<P><font size="2">Soporte ampliado para LDAP, incluyendo servicios como WWW,
FTP y Proxy, igualmente como el LVM (Logical Volume Manager),
hacen de SuSE Linux 6.4 la primera alternativa en cuanto a
sistemas basados en web. Para mejorar la seguridad de los
sistemas, se incluyen scripts para firewall mejorados y el
módulo del kernel 'secumod'. Otra vez se incluye la SuSE Proxy
Suite, una herramienta gratuita para firewall y FTP proxy
desarrollado por SuSE.</font> </P>
<P><font size="2">También es nuevo el soporte para el sistema de archivos
Reiser, con función de diario (journaling). De esta forma, se
registra cualquier cambio en las estructuras de datos en el
sistema de archivos, de forma que es posible recrear el
sistema de archivos en pocos segundos después de un fallo en
el sistema (por ejemplo, tras una caida del suministro
eléctrico). Junto con el LVM (Logical Volume Manager), se
puede aumentar el tamaño de particiones ReiserFS con el
sistema funcionando. Es posible reducir el tamaño de
particiones no montadas en el sistema de archivos.</font> </P>
<H3><font size="2">Hardware soportado</font></H3>
<P><font size="2">XFree86<SUP>TM</SUP> 3.3.6 soporta
ahora a los chips gráficos más nuevos, como NVIDIA
VANTA/GeForce 256, Savage2000 e Intel i810. Igualmente nueva
es la aceleración 3D por Hardware para las tarjetas de video
ATI Rage Pro, Intel i810, S3 ViRGE and Nvidia
VANTA/GeForce256.<BR>El recientemente completado XFree86 4.0
será de gran interés para profesionales y programadores. SuSE
es la primera distribución en incluir este software. Debido a
que XFree86 4.0, según el "The XFree86 Project" no ha sido
todavía suficientemente testeado, no se instalará por defecto.
Como primicia, SuSE presenta SaX2 (SuSE advanced X
Configuration), interfaz gráfico con el que se pueden
configurar convenientemente todas las características de
XFree86 4.0. XFree86<SUP>TM</SUP> 4.0 y
SaX2 se pueden encontrar en el CD-ROM número 1 en el
directorio <CODE>/unsorted</CODE>. Asegúrese de leer
detenidamente las <A

<P><font size="2">El soporte para dispositivos USB se ha incrementado
considerablemente - la mayoría de ratones USB, teclados USB y
USB escáners estan ahora soportados.</font> </P>
