Ever heard your systems admin tell you that checking your email is not going to give a virus, ya have to open the email to activiate the payload, er virus. Well CNN is running a story <a href= http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/07/21/ms.outlook.bugs.idg/index.html/>Here</a> about the latest and probably the most problematic bug in Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. <br><br>A software feature allows the date value to overflowed thus allowing unscrupulous people to tack on any command they wish. And your system will comply, willing... format c:, not a problem. Bye bye Windows and anything else on C:

And yes, this is old news, at least in Internet time. The bug was reported July 17, 2000 and Billysoft claimed they would have a fix out by the 19th. Is the bug fix out? just what I thought.

The bug was originally reported to MS-NBC, who covered it up to allow Billysoft to put together the fix.
<br>
As of 7/20/2000 Billysoft has released the second, yes second, version of this bug fix. The first version required a full version upgrade of Internet Exploder to quash the bug. No kidding. The current info about the "lack of security" problem can be found on at this Billysoft
