<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Access to environmental information can be crucial
for ensuring relevant policy responses to urban environmental
problems. Environmental information that is easy to access and to understand
is also important for increasing public awareness and
empowering urban stakeholders in a meaningful way.</FONT>

<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Although many cities
may have environmental data available, it can be fragmented and accessible
only to a few people. The CEROI Programme facilitates cities in turning
environmental data into usable information and in disseminating
this information effectively. Member cites produce indicator-based State
of the Environment (SoE) reports and publish these on the
Internet.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>By using the Internet,
the information is not only accessible to the city residents, but also
to other cities striving to manage similar environmental
issues.</FONT>

<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><STRONG>Benefits for
member cities<BR></STRONG>
Member cities are offered the
Publikit software with&nbsp;an integrated template for SoE reports. Publikit is a
complete web-publishing tool, tailor- made for State of Environment reporting. Member
cities can create urban reports with a minimum of web knowledge; once
completed, the city is offered space on the CEROI server.</FONT></P>

<P ><FONT face=Verdana size=2>A </FONT><A href="contact.htm"><FONT
face=Verdana size=2 >CEROI Secretariat</FONT></A><FONT face=Verdana
size=2> has been set up by UNEP/GRID-Arendal to serve the CEROI
network. The CEROI website serves as a resource for </FONT>

reporting</FONT></A>,<FONT face=Verdana size=2

also working to attract funding to cities with constrained
