<P><FONT SIZE=6>i</FONT> hope those of you who rolled Toomer's Corner last Friday don't really believe yourself to be Auburn people.

<P>I hope whoever posted a most vengeful, uninformed "advisory" last Friday on a locally-run web site doesn't believe himself to be a true Auburn man. And I use the term "man" loosely because he failed to accompany his name to his "work."

<P>I hope anyone who believes I shouldn't have written anything attacking Auburn people will remember those targeted aren't truly Auburn people.

<P>I hope those mentioned above can sleep at night after reveling in someone else's despair. I hope they at least consider the families of those following what they believe to be a solitary figure on his way out.

<P>I hope we all remember who this football program belongs to and give it back to them. Return it to those like the one who reminded me of that very fact last Saturday morning before his teammates ran onto the hallowed field of Jordan-Hare.

<P>I hope we all listen to the young man when he reminds us that this football program doesn't belong to coaches or athletic directors or college presidents or trustees or fans. He reminded me it belongs to the young men who play the game.

<P>I hope I always remember what he said.

<P>I hope his teammates are able to put disillusionment aside and enjoy what should be the greatest times of their lives.

<P>I hope the events of last week will be but a blip in their Auburn experience. I hope they realize that even the less savory experiences are ones from which to grow.

<P>I hope we will remember the good times provided by Coach Bowden, his players and staff. I hope they are given their due for trying to do things the right way.

<P>I hope 7-year-old Erin Bowden never has to ask her dad again if her last name will be different because her father is no longer the coach at Auburn.
I hope we will all rally around Coach Oliver and his efforts. I hope we remember his is an unenviable task. I hope we also remember he has many years of experience to draw from.

<P>I hope Coach Oliver's late father has a prime seat to watch his son take a stab at what I believe is the beginning of a dream for both of them.

<P>I hope Charles Dorsey, Karsten Bailey, DeMarcus Curry, Kendell Mack, Jayson Bray and their senior classmates can finish their Auburn careers in a flurry of wins and good times. I hope and believe that's possible.

<P>I hope we will always want the best for Auburn and her people, all her people.

<P>I hope I never have to see anything like what happened here last week ever again.

<P>I hope, and believe, we can be strong enough again to guarantee it never does.
