as a child Jimbo Fisher would eat Alpha Bits, his favorite cereal, while watching sports on television and dream of becoming a pro athlete. Although Fisher never made it to the NFL, as the Tigers' quarterback coach he prepares his players for life in college and the pros.

A record-breaking quarterback at Samford, Fisher has easily made the transition from playing at a smaller university to coaching at a major university. After his playing career ended, Fisher knew he wanted to continue being a part of the game of football. And after a brief stint in the Arena League, the only way left was through coaching.

"Dealing with the quarterback position can be a very demanding job," Fisher explained. "The quarterback gets too much credit and too much blame. It goes with the territory. It takes a special person and competitor to be a quarterback."

Through his experiences Fisher helped quarterbacks like Patrick Nix and Dameyune Craig deal with all of the high and low aspects of the game of football. As a coach, Fisher tries to give his players a frame of mind that will prepare them for these situations before they ever occur.

"I try to use different examples and experiences that happened to me when I played quarterback to help out those I coach," Fisher said.

"How the quarterback deals with being up and down will determine their success. If you're competitive you will learn to get out of your lows, come down from your highs, and stay on even keel," Fisher said. "When you end up in a bad situation you have to figure out how to turn it your way and come out on top in the end."

The relationship Fisher has with his players is his favorite part of coaching. "As the players grow and learn to handle adversity, they change from being boys into men," Fisher said.

Fisher hopes to show his players as they grow there is always a way to pull some good out of every situation. He tries to show them that things are never as bad as they seem.

One way Fisher keeps his quarterbacks levelheaded is by constantly pushing them and making them strive for perfection.

"He (Fisher) strives on competition and desire. He is a perfectionist and only wants the best out of all of us. He pushes us to our limits because he sees so much potential in us," quarterback Ben Leard said.

True freshmen quarterback Gabe Gross has also been pushed to the limits by Fisher's desire to succeed.

"His favorite word in the world is compete. He constantly tells us to compete and get it done. He reminds us youth is in your mind, players are players. Everyone has to make plays," Gross said.

Although Fisher's childhood dreams of becoming a pro athlete may have changed somewhat, he seems to be on track to accomplish his goals in life. He credits this accomplishment to his parents who prepared him for life everyday by being consistent, loyal, and dependable. At 33, Fisher's greatest achievement is becoming an assistant coach at a major school at such a young age.

Through his experiences as a player, Fisher adopted a philosophy of life that he passes on to his players.

"You must appreciate the opportunities you have and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Do not take anything for granted. Appreciate the moment," Fisher said.

Although Fisher no longer eats Alpha Bits he continues to teach his quarterbacks the ABC's of the game of football and of life. And no matter how much success Fisher's players enjoy, his greatest accomplishment is having the opportunity to prepare them to meet the challenges of life and prosper in their endeavors.
