<P>Head Gymnastics Coach Jeff Thompson announced today the hiring of Erin Gannon as the Tigers second assistant gymnastics coach.
<P>"After lettering for four years as a gymnast at Auburn and serving as a Student Assistant Coach last season, she will be the link between the Coach Dillard era, and the new age of Auburn Gymnastics," said Thompson.
<P>Gannon a 1999 graduate of Auburn University served as the Student Assistant Coach for Robert Dillard last year. Her main responsibility was the floor exercise, where she helped increase the Tigers overall average on the floor by over half a point from the previous year. Gannon has also been choreographing floor exercise routines for club level gymnasts in Florida for nine years.
<P>"I am so excited to be given this opportunity," said Gannon, a Fort Myers, Fla. native. "This gives me a chance to do something I love in a place that I love. Right now I couldn't ask for a better opportunity."
<P>Gannon holds the Auburn record on the vault, 9.925, and is also a NCAA Championship Individual Qualifier as she advanced to the finals in 1996. Gannon was also strong in the classroom as she was named to the Academic All-SEC Honor Roll for three years.
<P>Gannon, who is 21 years old, will be the only coach returning from last year's staff, and will add youthfulness to this year's staff.
<P>"I think it will help the girls with the transition between coaches that they know me and that they already trust me," said Gannon. "I also think that with the girls knowing me it will make it easier for Jeff (Thompson, head coach) and Steve (Craig, assistant coach) to make the transition.
