A study commissioned by DOD raises questions about whether the US should
pursue offensive strategies in cyber space to attack the infrastructures
of opposing forces. Some feel that pursuing an offensive strategy such as
this may open the door to possible coordinated and sophisticated attacks
by other countries. The report states that the development of Offensive
Information Warfare capabilities may create a situation similar to those
present by nuclear, chemical and biological weapons today.

The Legions of the Underground released a statement today concerning their
War on China and Iraq. They claim that all they wanted to do was send a
message to both countries using their talents and that they never had
destructive intentions. This is contrary to what was said during an IRC
press conference last week where they called for the destruction of all
computer systems in both countries. LoU also blames the media for letting
this get out of hand. The statement claims that they have not enlisted
the help of any other groups but appreciate their support.

A lot of news sites are reporting about a new virus that could wipe all
your data or secretly send it to someone else on the internet. This new
virus, dubbed the 'Russian New Year Virus' exploits a security hole in
Excel that has been known about since last month and for which MS has
already issued a patch. There are no known confirmed incidents of this
virus attacking anyone and no one has yet seen this virus in the wild.
Does this Virus exists or is it a publicity stunt by the Israeli security
company that claimed to have discovered it?

Microsoft's Hotmail service is now offering free virus scans of email
attachments. Network Associates Inc's McAfee VirusScan will be offered to
Hotmails estimated 30 million users. This reverses an earlier decision to
charge $2 a month for the service.

Evidently the EUA is being kicked off from its web hoster XOOM for a
violation of XOOMs policy which states <i>"We want to be completely honest
about our policy. XOOM.com values freedom of expression on our site but
we do not guarantee the right to free speech. XOOM.com is the final
arbiter of what IS and IS NOT allowed on our site."</i> A very
hypocritical statement, they value freedom of expression but then boot
their customers who express themselves. EUA will be moving their site.
