Last week the International Lyrics Server was taken off line by Swiss
authorities. The action by Swiss police comes after being pressured by
the National Music Publishers' Association who accused the Lyrics server
of copyright violations. Administrators of the site hope to have most of
it back online within a few days. (Evidently they had an off site backup,
WooHoo!)

Another example of scare tactics that includes the zillions of dollars in
losses to get poor CIOs to fork money over to consulting firms. Of course
there are quotes from a Big 5 firm. FUD marketing meets the gullible
press. A favorite quote: 'Hackers call it "phreaking." Security
professionals prefer the term "social engineering"' Huh? (Glad I don't
fit the stereotype.)

The folks at the L0pht have released YAA (Yet Another Advisory). This one
covers a WindowsNT password auditing tool known as Password Appraiser by
Quackenbush Consulting, Inc. Evidently this tool, including the trial
version, transmits all your NT passwords, in plaintext, across the
Internet for anyone to sniff. Now that's security!
