Bill Cheek, recently arrested for selling a "data slicer", has released a letter to his friends and supporters. A statement
from the US Magistrate judge in Brooklyn is included. This statement is
so bogus. Any reception of any public service radio communication falls
under the statement by the magistrate. The word surreptitious is so
misleading here. This is the way receiving
radio signals broadcast works. The sender doesn't know who is listening.
Duh! I guess I am surreptitiously listening to WFNX now. Oh no, I just
blew my cover! If this court case flies then all packet radio, WeFAX, and
rtty equipment is illegal.

Christopher Thomas Daniels, of Perth Australia, was fined $2500 and
ordered to pay $500 restitution to an ISP. Daniels pleaded guilty to
using 37 internet accounts from Vianet, to steal $50 worth of internet

A Tampa, FL based magazine has printed a ludicrous cover story on hackers
and hacking that just adds to the injustice of the entire media
sensationalism of the word 'hacker' Using what appears to be an AOL or
IRC chat room as a source this turns out be just another example of a
'journalist' reporting on something he knows absolutely nothing about.
