Nomad Mobile Research Centre has an issued an advisory concerning Network
Associates VirusScan NT (formerly McAfee VirusScan NT) version 4.0.2.
They claim it does not properly update virus signature definition files
under certain conditions, and will falsely report it is up to date during
manual updates. This impacts both NT Server and Workstation.
NAI says that people should upgrade to 4.0.3a.

Wired magazine has finally picked up the story about how NEC, Motorola,
Nokia, and Sun Microsystems came to the conclusion that Kevin Mitnick
cost them almost $300 million dollars. Considering that these supposed
losses were not reported to the IRS or to shareholders one has to wonder
how accurate these losses really are. Kevin Mitnick is scheduled to be
sentenced on June 14th when the question of damages, as well as his
ability to pay them, will be considered.

Secretary Cohen had the right idea when he set up a Reservist Unit to
sanitize government web sites. The idea is that lots of unclassified data
could be amassed to draw inferences about classified data. Well the
corporate world should learn from that. If you don't think that your
competition is reading every word on your corporate web site think again.
Some companies have gone so far as to hire outside firms to sift through
all the data. Hey, its Free and its there for the taking. Better review
the contents of your corporate web site now before your competitors do.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies released a paper that
claims that the the Y2K problem is a known quantity, has a strict
deadline and methods to solve the problem are at hand. The annual
"Strategic Survey" says that this is in stark contrast to cyber threats
that could take down the entire global internet. (I haven't found the
paper yet but this news article is full of bogus info. If it is any
indication of how acurate the paper is then don't bother.)
