CompuServe's New Zealand branch points the finger at competing New Zealand ISPs, Ihug and Xtra and says that "there is no excuse for having inferior security mechanisms." IHug recently admitted that it was cracked wide open and lost most of its customers data, Xtra has admitted to having a major Back Orifice infestation that has compromised user accounts. CompuServe is attempting to distance itself from these problems.

<a href="http://www.calluna.com">Calluna Technology, Ltd. </a>has announced that its recently introduced software package PC Bodyguard is secure. They are making this claim not because they set it up to a vigorous review process or allowed the community as a whole to look at its internals. No they issued a "Hacker Challenge" offered a $15,000 prize and really expected to attract people that would be capable of breaking their software. So since none of the thousands of visitors to their booth at COMDEX either didn't have any brains or didn't have the time they are claiming that their software is secure.

The Pentagon has recently released its latest report on the status of approximately 65 mission critical Y2K projects. One of these "mission-critical" items has nothing to do with National Defense but instead deals with where the Generals get to park their cars. That's right, the Pentagons parking system has been deemed "mission critical". Oh, and its two months behind schedule. Glad to see DoD knows what it takes to fight and win a war.
