Welcome to the Lychen wiki!
Why Lychen?
We had been using pure JScript but found that we needed a bit more grunt. We had been led to believe that COM/ActiveX was on its way out so we gave up on simply extending JScript with COM/ActiveX DLLs. So we looked around and found ClearScript. And haven't looked back. Oh, and we had to talk to SQL Server too.
Lychen is a C#/Clearscript wrapping of a JavaScript interpreter, in this case, V8. (The earlier project wrapped Microsoft JScript.) There are lots of command line JavaScript engines out there, all far more mature and powerful than this one. Node, for example.
Lychen may get as over-featured as its older brother (e.g. exposing Xero, WooCommerce, Google Ads, WordPress etc. symbols) but so far it's tight and does what it does well.
Lychen is not supposed to be cutting-edge. Rather, it's on the spine of the blade, about as far from the cutting-edge as one can get without leaving the blade altogether.
