Allow logging to syslog or to other logger objects rather than the built-in one.
Something like backup perform -t my_backup --syslog ? I've never written to the syslog, is there some kind of unix utility that can accomplish this on OSX and Linux?
backup perform -t my_backup --syslog
I opened this because I'm trying to get everything possible to log to syslog (using http://graylog2.org/ to collect everything.)
The standard ruby logger (http://www.ruby-doc.org/stdlib/libdoc/logger/rdoc/classes/Logger.html) defines an API for a logger object, and there are other gems that follow this API (https://github.com/crohr/syslogger seems to be the best/most active for syslog.) I opened this after seeing how chef can do it: http://tickets.opscode.com/browse/CHEF-273?focusedCommentId=16619&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-16619 , by specifying in a configuration file an object that will act as the logger. Let me know if that doesn't make any sense.
Closing this because of the fix above (thanks @antonlindstrom!)
If you're using logstash, you can use the backup log file for an input and output to just about anything.
