d3-panel

Plot data right in Chrome DevTools panel

Build status dependencies devdependencies

This is a Chrome extension that creates new DevTools panel "d3-panel" with d3 library (and a few utility wrappers for convenience). You can then send data to be plotted and explored from the browser console. For example, if you are debugging a page and have a sequence of numbers in a variable, you can plot a bar chart.

d3-panel

You can send data to the d3-panel using window.postMessage(data, '*'); command or by running a code snippet d3-panel-api. Read how to use code snippets here.

Install

Developers

  • Grab this repo using git clone git@github.com:bahmutov/d3-panel.git
  • Open Chrome extensions page chrome://extensions
  • Load unpacked extension using Developer mode from src folder. You should see something similar to the image below

install

When you open Chrome DevTools you should see new d3-panel tab. You can now plot numbers but simply typing from the browser console window.postMessage([10, 20, 30], '*'); or window.postMessage('hello World!', '*');.

optional: Save a code snippet d3-panel-api, then anytime you reload a page, you can run the snippet and use d3panel.bar, d3panel.text, ... calls.

Users - coming soon.

Plot types and commands

Plot bar chart of numbers

d3panel.bar(n1, n2, ...) or d3panel.bar({ foo: 20, bar: 30, ... }) plots horizontal bar chart.

bar chart

Clear the panel

d3panel.clear() removes all charts from the d3-panel.
