Most marketplaces want to pay merchants out directly to bank accounts, but there might be some marketplaces/merchants who would prefer to handle payouts via Paypal.

I’m not sure what kind of issues this would raise w/r/t fraud, regulation, etc., but it’s worth gauging interest here anyhow.

I agree because this will solve the international merchant issues for now.

I can second that; mostly due to PayPal's support for international payouts.

I provided a detailed explanation around the challenges of supporting PayPal in my answer to the Quora question Does Balanced offer PayPal crediting or debiting functionality?

Hey Martin - just read your response on Quora. All really valid items with fraud being at the top of my list. I too would like to see PayPal return but only because I'd like to support merchants outside of the US, not because I like PayPal.

This issue is still being actively investigated. Balanced can only support PayPal payouts if PayPal agrees to allow Balanced to reverse payouts.

I would love to see PayPal as an option for payouts. Has there been any word from PayPal about allowing reversals?

Unfortunately a lot of people aren't completely comfortable entering their bank account info when signing up with a new-ish company... but most people have PayPal accounts already. We're planning PayPal integration for our marketplace for that reason, but it would be incredibly convenient to be able to use the built in escrow features of Balanced along with it.

What was the cost for completing a payout through PayPal when it was first enabled? I know PayPal to PayPal transfers are free...

@robertlenz:

We talked to the Product Manager of PayPal payouts (MassPay) about this. It won't happen.

What was the cost for completing a payout through PayPal when it was first enabled? I know PayPal to PayPal transfers are free...

PayPal MassPay is 2% with a $1 cap. It's free if you're initiating the transaction throughpaypal.com but not through the API.

I'd love to learn more about your specific use case in using PayPal. Could you email me at manisha@balancedpayments.com

PayPal really needs to be on top of their game. It's like they're a dinosaur when it comes to payments - but nearly all international sellers have them. A combination of escrow for the marketplace + paypal payments (if they weren't such dinosaurs) would be ideal.

The problem with international payments is that it takes an indefinite amount of time to support every country in the world. But once it's done, it's done!

I think working out something with PayPal to grow together towards a brighter future for all payments is a must - as they support tons of international sellers and all you need is a payout email. But they MUST be able to work with Balanced to undo unintentional mistakes so everything is smooth sailing.

Keep us updated on PayPal & a speedy International Support Solution!

+1 for PayPal - nearly the whole web uses it by now (we should definitely support it as a payout option)

As much as I hate that paypal is no longer remaining current with best practices or anything else on their front-end they are a low-barrier option for Canadian artisans.

I'm not sure what the scenario is outside of Canada but here the average person will find it much easier to funnel funds through paypal into an account than set up a business account capable of setting up credit cards. I'd prefer that Balanced offers payment direct to Canadian accounts but until that happens; paypal is the best option.

There are very few options right now for international payments. PayPal is one. Payoneer is another. I think Stripe and others are going to compete in this arena in the longer term future. Definitely a huge need for an integrated solution.

Lengthy response to the difficulties surrounding supporting PayPal, https://www.quora.com/Does-Balanced-offer-PayPal-crediting-or-debiting-functionality.

In short, PayPal support is not a planned feature but we may revisit it at a later date.
