When GanttProject is closed, all previously configured printer settings are
lost, and the default (first) printer is selected again with default values.

The PrinterJob (if you are using that) should be serialised into a config place
before closing GanttProject and be retreived at startup. If you like, you may
use our utility collection
(https://marwww.in2p3.fr/internal/informatique/RT/pdv/javadoc/index.html?ch/cern
/atlas/pdv/PrintUtilities.html) for that. Let me know, if you cannot get access
to the source repository.

I believe that the last printer should only get remembered during the
application execution 'lifetime'. When restarting an application the default
print should be picked.
At least this is my opinion

Again, this is also a matter of convention (like mouse wheel zooming). Acrobat
Reader, OpenOffice and many more applications do not work this way. Typically a
user sets up his environment once and is used to find it back in the same state.

Personnally I am working in an environment with 10 printers. My favourite
printer is not the first in the list and the default setup is useless. It is
more than likely that I will always use the same printer for output of the same
application on the same computer (and even on other computers in the same
cluster). Therefore it is clearly a gain to do the printer setup only once. The
only reason I will ever have to change it is that the closest printer to my
working place is broken once a year or so.

The printer setup should be preserved. Maybe my experience is limited, but
this is the only software I have used that does not do this. Often when doing
prints, it takes several times to get it right - a waste of paper. You have to
set up each time, not only the printer, but the margins and the sheet size.
The 1" margins are ridiculous as a default. Is this improved in the 2.5
release? Is there a way to change the defaults in a setup or ini file or
something?

The class proposed in the original report does exactly this. (It is called a
.properties file in Java.) It is disappointing indeed to see that after 14
months, it has not been possible to apply this simple patch to the code.
