Referring to this discussion:

enctype="multipart/form-data" causes UTF-8 encoding not to be honored by the server for the text input values that are contained in the same form element.

This does not happen in all server environments. I encountered this in Apache v3.14.9 rev9999 with PHP v5.4.6.

To fix it ;charset=utf-8 to be added into enctype:

enctype="multipart/form-data;charset=utf-8"

@alexbilbie

Just leaving myself a note for later, the fix should use $config['charset']

@biberltd

umm,

enctype="multipart/form-data;charset=utf-8"

breaks the file upload mechanism. maybe the fix should be done on server settings. don't know but i'll let you know whether this is a real issue or not.

@biberltd Did you get to any conclusion on this?

Quoting the latest reply to the linked forum thread:

Looks like this one was resolved after recompiling apache with PHP on their server. If anyone else is having similar issues and that doesn’t resolve it for them, please open up a new support request and we’ll be glad to help you out!
