    Rework of Haskell Platform website

  4. Rework of Haskell Platform website

    This is a rework of the Haskell Platform website.

    This work began as an adaptation of Erin Depew's front-end design. It
    was the consensus that this design, while attractive and very usable,
    could try harder to quickly bring the potential user to a download. In
    particular, we should meet the standard set by Scala [1] (and others),
    where the user can get from the http://scala-lang.org/ to a downloaded
    installed in two clicks.

    Towards this goal, the Haskell Platform index page has been eliminated
    entirely. This is possible as haskell.org now does an admirable job of
    selling the language, thanks to Chris Done's rework. The download page
    now initially shows only those downloads for the user's current
    operating system, while allowing the user to explore other options if
    neccesary.

  3. Switch to Shake 0.14 or later

    Shake renamed *> to %> because of the upcoming *> in Prelude.
    Renamed our */> to %/> to match.

    The type of CmdResults was generalized in 0.15, and the code
    needed to fix the type in a place where we ignored Stderr output.
    The fix is just an extra type annotation, so should work with
    older Shake as well.

  2. Specify the last version of Shake that GhcDist.hs likes

    GhcDist.hs aborts with an error message when Shake 0.15 is used.
    We therefore tell Cabal to depend on "shake < 0.15". This change
    closes #173.

  1. Path separator clean-ups for Windows; log a warning when

    removing a non-empty directory;

    * hptool/src/Dirs.hs
      * In the (*/>) function, use the removeDirectoryRecursive
        function from Util.hs rather than repeat the exact code
        (plus, we can do the warning, if needed, about deleting
        non-empty dirs, in one place)
      * Make 'markerToDir' insensitive to path separator char
    * hptool/src/LocalCommand.hs
      * Make 'localCommand' insensitive to path separator char
    * hptool/src/Utils.hs
      * Make 'relativeToDir' insensitive to path separator char
      * Add a warning message when recursively removing a
        non-empty directory (which is sometimes legit, e.g., if
        re-starting a failed build, but other times it can
        indicate an incorrect rule/dependency, which can
        otherwise be very hard to track down (because the files
        you thought should have been there were deleted at some
        point)
      * Change the verbosity mapping in 'shakeToGhcPkgVerbosity'
        so that "one louder" shake verbosity ("Chatty" is really
        needed for trying to figure out dependency and rule
        problems) does not cause cabal (and hence ghc) to become
        deafening with ghc's most inner thoughts
