This is a test app in Rails 3.1 for image uploads w/ uploadify, paperclip, and Amazon S3. I’m using it to evaluate Heroku, Dotcloud, and other hosting platforms for a larger project.
It’s not pretty, but it works well enough for testing, and as a reference application for using these tools with jQuery and Rails 3.1. You’ll need to set up your own database.yml file.
The code and config in this public repository is only the Heroku version. Some of the other platforms (such as Dotcloud) require me to check in my database.yml file, which isn’t suitable for a public git repository.
Setup for various hosting platforms
heroku create --stack cedar
git push heroku master
heroku run rake db:migrate
heroku config:add S3_KEY=my_amazon_key
heroku config:add S3_SECRET=my_amazon_secret
heroku config:add S3_BUCKET=my_amazon_bucket
# for using cloudfront - don't include http://
heroku config:add S3_ALIAS_URL=my_cloundfront_url
Result: even after scaling to 4 dynos, upload and image-resizing speed is still rather disappointing.
