Below, we provide the files to replicate the analyses for our paper:
Pescosolido, Bernice, Bianca Manago, and John Monahan. (2019). “Mental Illness, Violence and
Coercion in the Public Mind: A Twenty-Year US Stigma Comparison.” Health Affairs.
Please reach out to Bianca Manago bianca.manago@vanderbilt.edu with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Here are all of the statistical replication files for the manuscript. Currently available in Stata.
Importantly, the data file from GSS was too large to upload. To start from the beginning, simply
use the 1972-2018 download from GSS.
Otherwise, begin with our second data file. (data00-import)
Note, when transposing our Figure 2 from our file (see what we provided) to the manuscript, the copy editors misinterpreted the effect sizes, changing 10 percent (.1) to 1 percent (.01). Unfortunately we didn't catch this in the final review of the manuscript, but there was an errata published.
- GSS indicates that this data is derived from the GSS.
- The numbering (e.g., data00) indicates the order in which files need to be run.
- Filenames that include "data" are for data management processes.
- Filenames that include "do" are for analyses.
