Supercharge your Mac's Touch Bar

EnergyBar replaces your Mac's Touch Bar with a collection of widgets, such as a Dock or a "Now Playing" widget. The goal of EnergyBar is to maximize the Touch Bar's usability, while minimizing some of its flaws such as inadvertent tapping.

Dock

The default placement of EnergyBar widgets allows for consistency and memorization of your Touch Bar use. The areas around the Esc key and above the Delete key have been kept non-functional to alleviate the problem of inadvertent tapping. At the same time EnergyBar allows for customization so that you only have your favorite widgets visible.

NOTE: Mojave and Catalina expand the number of Privacy controls (accessible from System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy). EnergyBar needs access to many of these areas: for example, it needs Accessibility for the esc key, Automation access to control the Finder, Location Services access to get the current location for weather purposes and Calendar access for Reminder/Events. If something stops working, make sure to check the Privacy controls in System Preferences and ensure that EnergyBar is enabled.

Changes since version 1.6

  • App is now notarized.
  • New TODO widget allows access to your reminders and calendar events.
  • Fixed some problems with the Dock widget.

Changes since version 1.3

  • Dock: You can now click items in the dock using the mouse! (The previous version supported only drag & drop of files or folders, but now clicking is supported as well!) This functionality is disabled by default; you can enable it from the EnergyBar settings.
    • The Touch Bar physical metrics for this functionality were calculated on a 2018 MacBook Pro 13-inch. They should work for other models, but please let me know if they do not.
  • WeatherWidget: new in this version. Supports getting current weather for your location. This is available as a separate widget or as a secondary display of the ClockWidget.
  • ClockWidget: can be configured to also show battery status.
  • A number of other fixes and improvements.
