web app language settings don't show country flags in Google Chrome (Win)

Using Google Chrome (version 109.0.5414.120) on Win 10 I cannot see the country flags in the "Settings/Appearance" setting of the web app.
Instead the language/country shortcodes are displayed:

This happens on different machines.
