@genjix

ok this is a modification of luke-jr's multiclient branch more in line with what people were discussing in that pull request.

You can check this site by adding this to your /etc/hosts file:

176.31.24.241 bitcoin.org

Images are 260x200.

I intended to put a section called "Website Frontends" but I do not know enough about the online wallet scene to really make any informed comment there. I know for certain that Strongcoin is having problems after several of the key developers left, and when I went to load blockchain.info, the site was down.

I think a good policy is that if a project doesn't show activity for 2 months then it is assumed to be inactive. I favour making a bullet list at the bottom of the page which is greyed out to record old clients for historical posterity.

It would be nice to have an additional row underneath 'Website: ...' called 'Platforms:' with a logo for Windows, Linux, Mac, Android .etc but I wasn't sure how to add that in Jekyll so we'll leave that for now as it is non-critical.

Other ideas:

 • I eventually hope for another tab called 'Backends' with Bitcoin, libbitcoin and BitCoinJ listed. I deliberately kept them off this page (at tcatm's suggestion) because this should be beginner friendly whereas that 'Backend Implementation' is architecture/infrastructurally oriented.

 • Would be good to have a 'Mining' tab with all the Bitcoin miners and some informative links as that is a topic many new Bitcoin users are interested in (despite it's silliness). Maybe a short description saying 'hey you are unlikely to make much money (if at all) and your time is better spent making services and being creative'.

@genjix

I'm going to close this because there's some small issues that can be cleaned up first:

Bitcoin-Qt is well tested, and is a good starting point for any Bitcoin user looking for stability.

MultiBit provides features like different languages, single click payment and quicker access to new features.

+
Bitcoin is one of the first implementations of a concept called crypto-currency, which was first described in 1998 by Wei Dai on the cypherpunks mailing list. Building upon the notion that money is any object, or any sort of record, accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts in a given country or socio-economic context, Bitcoin is designed around the idea of using cryptography to control the creation and transfer of money, rather than relying on central authorities.
