With the recent launch of the new git-scm.com site, we are also progressively launching a set of free Git screencasts.

The first of these videos, entitled What is Version Control? addresses the category of users that are new to Git.

A colleague needing a quick explanation of the value of a version control system (VCS) will be the audience that benefits most from this episode. In a brief six minutes, the video articulates what a VCS such as Git can do to facilitate collaborative authoring of documents, images, and source code.
