When I try to use tar I get a dialog with the message "The program can't start because libiconv-2.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

That library is missing from the installation.

My system is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

This should have been fixed in version 0.7.0 : https://github.com/bmatzelle/gow/downloads

0.7.0 is where it happened. I downloaded the .exe version.

Github has two buttons for downloading archives. They both download 0.5, not 0.7.

I don't know why you're saying it's 0.5.0. This link downloads 0.7.0 for me: https://github.com/downloads/bmatzelle/gow/Gow-0.7.0.exe

Either way there's yet another Windows PATH bug. Sigh. Just run this command to fix the naming of the libiconv2 file:

rename "C:\Program Files\Gow\bin\libiconv2.dll" libiconv-2.dll

That fixed it. Thanks.

The buttons I was talking about are the "Download as zip" and "Download as .tgz" buttons.

Your bash.exe doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I'm missing something. Where would .bashrc be for GOW?

Any plans to implement rsync? I know that's a challenge but cygwin rsync has some problems copying and restoring files.

i find that sed is using the original "libiconv2.dll" while tar uses "libiconv-2.dll"
i simply made 2 copies of each in C:\Program Files (x86)\Gow\bin and now tar and sed lives happily ever after :-)
hope this helps..
