Here is a complete list of DOOM Retro’s console variables (CVARs). To see the current value of a CVAR, type its name in the console and press ENTER. To change the value of a CVAR, type its name, followed by a space, the CVAR’s new value, and then press ENTER. The values of CVARs are saved in doomretro.cfg.

1. alwaysrun off Toggles the player to always run when they move.
2. am_allmapcdwallcolor 106 The color of lines with a change in ceiling height in the automap when the player has the computer area map power-up (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
3. am_allmapfdwallcolor 110 The color of lines with a change in floor height in the automap when the player has the computer area map power-up (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
4. am_allmapwallcolor 108 The color of solid walls in the automap when the player has the computer area map power-up (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
5. am_backcolor 0 The color of the automap’s background (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
6. am_cdwallcolor 160 The color of lines with a change in ceiling height in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
7. am_crosshaircolor 4 The color of the crosshair in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
8. am_external on Toggles showing the automap on an external display.
9. am_fdwallcolor 64 The color of lines with a change in floor height in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
10. am_followmode on Toggles follow mode in the automap.1
11. am_grid off Toggles the grid in the automap.
12. am_gridcolor 6 The color of the grid in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
13. am_gridsize 128x128 The size of the grid in the automap.
14. am_markcolor 95 The color of marks in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
15. am_path off Toggles the player’s path in the automap.
16. am_pathcolor 95 The color of the player’s path in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
17. am_playercolor 4 The color of the player in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
18. am_rotatemode on Toggles rotate mode in the automap.
19. am_teleportercolor 184 The color of teleporters in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
20. am_thingcolor 112 The color of things in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
21. am_tswallcolor 104 The color of lines with no change in height in the automap (0 to 255).
22. am_wallcolor 176 The color of solid walls in the automap (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
23. ammo 0 The amount of ammo for the player’s currently equipped weapon.
24. armor 0% The player’s armor (0% to 200%).
25. armortype none The player’s armor type (none, green or blue).
26. autoaim on Toggles vertical autoaiming as the player fires their weapon while using mouselook.
27. autoload on Toggles automatically loading the last savegame after the player dies.2
28. autouse off Toggles automatically using a door or switch when the player is nearby.
29. centerweapon on Toggles centering the player’s weapon when firing.
30. con_backcolor 12 The color of the console’s background (0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
31. con_obituaries on Toggles obituaries in the console when monsters are killed or resurrected.
32. con_timestamps on Toggles timestamps next to player messages and obituaries in the console.
33. episode 1 The currently selected DOOM episode in the menu (1 to 4).
34. expansion 1 The currently selected DOOM II expansion in the menu (1 or 2).
35. facebackcolor none The color behind the player’s face in the status bar (none, or 0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
36. gametime 00:00:00 The amount of time DOOM Retro has been running.3
37. gp_analog on Toggles whether movement using the gamepad’s thumbsticks is analog or digital.
38. gp_deadzone_left 24% The dead zone of the gamepad’s left thumbstick (0% to 100%).
39. gp_deadzone_right 26.5% The dead zone of the gamepad’s right thumbstick (0% to 100%).
40. gp_invertyaxis off Toggles inverting the vertical axis of the gamepad’s right thumbstick when looking up and down.
41. gp_sensitivity 64 The gamepad’s sensitivity (0 to 128).
42. gp_swapthumbsticks off Toggles swapping the gamepad’s left and right thumbsticks.
43. gp_thumbsticks 2 The number of thumbsticks used on the gamepad (1 or 2).
44. gp_vibrate_barrels 100% The amount XInput gamepads vibrate when the player is near an exploding barrel (0% to 200%).
45. gp_vibrate_damage 100% The amount XInput gamepads vibrate when the player receives damage (0% to 200%).
46. gp_vibrate_weapons 100% The amount XInput gamepads vibrate when the player fires their weapon (0% to 200%).
47. health 0% The player’s health (0% to 200%).
48. infighting on Toggles infighting among monsters once the player dies.
49. infiniteheight off Toggles giving the player and monsters infinite height.
50. iwadfolder "C:\" The folder where an IWAD was last opened.
51. m_acceleration on Toggles the acceleration of mouse movement.
52. m_doubleclick_use off Toggles double-clicking a mouse button for the +use action.
53. m_invertyaxis off Toggles inverting the vertical axis of the mouse when using mouselook.
54. m_novertical on Toggles no vertical movement of the mouse.
55. m_sensitivity 16 The mouse’s sensitivity (0 to 128).
56. messages off Toggles player messages.
57. mouselook off Toggles mouselook.
58. movebob 75% The amount the player’s view bobs up and down when they move (0% to 100%).
59. playername "you" The name of the player used in messages.
60. r_althud off Toggles an alternate heads-up display when in widescreen mode.
61. r_berserkintensity 2 The intensity of the effect when the player has the berserk power-up and their fists equipped (0 to 8).
62. r_blood all The colors of the blood of the player and monsters (all, none or red).
63. r_bloodsplats_max 65,536 The maximum amount of blood splats allowed in a map (0 to 1,048,576).
64. r_bloodsplats_total 0 The total number of blood splats in the current map.3
65. r_bloodsplats_translucency on Toggles the translucency of blood splats.
66. r_brightmaps on Toggles brightmaps on certain wall textures.
67. r_color 100% The intensity of the color on the screen (0% to 100%).
68. r_corpses_color on Toggles randomly colored marine corpses.
69. r_corpses_mirrored on Toggles randomly mirrored corpses.
70. r_corpses_moreblood on Toggles blood splats around corpses that are spawned when a map is loaded.
71. r_corpses_nudge on Toggles corpses being nudged when monsters walk over them.
72. r_corpses_slide on Toggles corpses sliding in reaction to barrel and rocket explosions.
73. r_corpses_smearblood on Toggles corpses leaving blood splats behind as they slide.
74. r_detail high Toggles the graphic detail (low or high).
75. r_diskicon off Toggles showing a disk icon when loading and saving.
76. r_dither off Toggles dithering of BOOM-compatible translucent wall textures.
77. r_fixmaperrors on Toggles the fixing of mapping errors in the DOOM and DOOM II IWADs.4
78. r_fixspriteoffsets on Toggles the fixing of sprite offsets.
79. r_floatbob on Toggles some power-ups bobbing up and down.
80. r_fov 90 The player’s field of view (45 to 135).
81. r_gamma 0.90 The screen’s gamma correction level (off, or 0.50 to 2.0).
82. r_homindicator off Toggles the flashing “Hall Of Mirrors” indicator.
83. r_hud on Toggles the heads-up display when in widescreen mode.
84. r_hud_translucency on Toggles the translucency of the heads-up display when in widescreen mode.
85. r_liquid_bob on Toggles the bobbing effect of liquid sectors and the sprites in them.
86. r_liquid_clipsprites on Toggles clipping the bottom of sprites in liquid sectors.
87. r_liquid_current on Toggles a slight current being applied to liquid sectors.
88. r_liquid_lowerview on Toggles lowering the player’s view when in a liquid sector.
89. r_liquid_swirl on Toggles the swirl effect of liquid sectors.
90. r_lowpixelsize 2×2 The size of pixels when the graphic detail is low (width×height).
91. r_messagepos (3,2) The position of player messages ((x,y)).
92. r_messagescale big The scale of player messages (big or small).
93. r_mirroredweapons off Toggles randomly mirroring the weapons dropped by monsters.
94. r_playersprites on Toggles showing the player’s weapon.
95. r_rockettrails on Toggles the trails of smoke behind rockets fired by the player and cyberdemons.
96. r_screensize 7 The screen size (0 to 7).
97. r_shadows on Toggles sprites casting shadows.
98. r_shadows_translucency on Toggles the translucency of shadows cast by sprites.
99. r_shake_barrels on Toggles shaking the screen when the player is near an exploding barrel.
100. r_shake_damage 50% The amount the screen shakes when the player is injured (0% to 100%).
101. r_skycolor none The color of the sky (none, or 0 to 255, or #rrggbb).
102. r_textures on Toggles displaying all textures.
103. r_translucency on Toggles the translucency of sprites and BOOM-compatible wall textures.
104. s_channels 32 The number of sound effects that can be played at the same time (8 to 64).
105. s_musicvolume 67% The volume level of music (0% to 100%).
106. s_randommusic off Toggles randomizing the music at the start of each map.
107. s_randompitch off Toggles randomizing the pitch of monster sound effects.
108. s_sfxvolume 100% The volume level of sound effects (0% to 100%).
109. s_stereo on Toggles playing sound effects in mono or stereo.
110. savegame 1 The currently selected savegame in the menu (1 to 6).
111. skilllevel 3 The currently selected skill level in the menu (1 to 5).4
112. stillbob 0% The amount the player’s view and weapon bob up and down when they stand still (0% to 100%).
113. tossdrop on Toggles tossing items dropped by monsters when they die.
114. turbo 100% The speed of the player (10% to 400%).
115. units imperial The units used in the mapstats and playerstats CCMDs (imperial or metric).
116. version "2.7.3" DOOM Retro’s version.3
117. vid_capfps 200 The number of frames per second at which to cap the framerate (off, or 1 to 1,000). Interpolation is disabled when this CVAR is 35.
118. vid_display 1 The display used to render the game.
119. vid_fullscreen on Toggles between fullscreen and a window.
120. vid_motionblur 0% The amount of motion blur when the player turns quickly (0% to 100%).
121. vid_pillarboxes off Toggles use of the black pillarboxes either side of the screen for palette effects.
122. vid_scaleapi "opengl" The API used to scale the display ("opengl", "direct3d" or "software").
123. vid_scalefilter "nearest" The filter used to scale the display ("nearest", "linear" or "nearest_linear").
124. vid_screenresolution desktop The screen’s resolution when fullscreen (desktop or width×height).
125. vid_showfps off Toggles showing the average number of frames per second.
126. vid_vsync on Toggles vertical sync with the display’s refresh rate.
127. vid_widescreen off Toggles widescreen mode.
128. vid_windowpos centered The position of the window on the desktop (centered or (x,y)).
129. vid_windowsize 768×480 The size of the window on the desktop (width×height).
130. wad "" The last WAD to be opened by the WAD launcher.3
131. weaponbob 75% The amount the player’s weapon bobs up and down when they move (0% to 100%).
132. weaponrecoil off Toggles the player’s weapon recoiling when fired while using mouselook.
133. wipe on Toggles the wipe effect when transitioning between screens.
