THE CONSOLE

DOOM Retro’s console is a command-line interface that displays system and player messages, and allows the player to enter console commands (CCMDs) and change console variables (CVARs). It may be accessed at any time by pressing the ~ key. When pressed, the console will appear from the top of the screen and extend downwards to cover half the player’s view, pausing any gameplay. CCMDs and CVARs may then be typed directly at the prompt in the console.

While the console is open, there are a few keys that have special functions:

CONTROL ACTION
and

Cycle up and down through a history of recently typed CCMDs and CVARs.
and Move the text caret one character to the left and right in the input.
SHIFT + / Select the character to the left and right of the text caret in the input.
CTRL + A Select all of the text in the input.
CTRL + C Copy the text selected from the input to the clipboard.
CTRL + V Paste the text from the clipboard into the input.
CTRL + X Cut the text selected from the input to the clipboard.
CTRL + Z Undo the last change made to the text in the input.
PGUP and PGDN Scroll the text in the console up and down.
HOME

Move the text caret to the start of the input, or scroll to the top of the console.
END

Move the text caret to the end of the input, or scroll to the end of the console.
SHIFT + HOME / END Select all the text to the left and right of the text caret in the input.
TAB and SHIFT + TAB
                                    



You can type the first part of a CCMD, CVAR or parameter and then press the TAB key to use the autocomplete feature. This will attempt to complete what you’ve typed with the best match found. You can then continue pressing TAB to cycle through all other matches until you find the one you want.
~ Close the console and return to the game.
