Description

I have a double monitor setup, where I have one supporting HDR, and another one not supporting it.
When I get to browse on my non-HDR monitor, and something bright get on the page, the whole page get very bright, as if it was trying to compensate an non-existing HDR ?
Disabling Hardware acceleration does solve the issue.

Brave window get back to normal when moved to the HDR monitor.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Get a dual monitor setup with HDR on one, and no HDR on the other.
  2. Browse page on non-HDR monitor until the whole brave window get very bright

@jeefuji thanks for the report - we've seen a few of these recently. Can you please try the following?

  1. Open brave://flags/#force-color-profile
  2. Pick sRGB option
  3. Restart the browser if needed

I think that will solve your problem - please let us know. This would be preferable to hardware acceleration (although, it's interesting that did solve the problem too)

@bsclifton Thank you for your answer.
Looks like your steps also act as a workaround to me!
And I agree it's preferable. Even though hardware acceleration bring another issue that is unrelated to this one.

Note that I didn't have this issue a week ago so it's probably related to a recent change, or an update I've made on my computer (didn't update drivers until today, so probably unrelated).
Also, disabling HDR on my HDR monitor in windows 11 settings also act as a workaround.

@bsclifton,

I'm the one that recorded that video. :-)

Yup, that workaround seems to resolve it so far. Thank you!

Are there any drawbacks to leaving this setting to sRGB? Should we consider reverting it at some point if the issue is resolved in the code base?

I hope this will be actually fixed in the near future and not reliant on this workaround, because forcing it to sRGB is great if you only want to use it on the non HDR display, but what if you want to use it on both displays, and use HDR on the HDR display?

The workaround did not resolve it for me.
I have a non-HDR monitor connected to my laptop with an HDR display. Whenever I play a video on full screen on any website, the brightness on the HDR display on my laptop automatically increases.

Brave is up to date

  • Version 1.42.88 Chromium: 104.0.5112.81 (Official Build) (64-bit)]

Same problem here, maximum blindness, tried all the above and some plus reinstall. Pretty much out of ideas.
