So seemingly, this error has to do with glib dev files missing which I fixed by installing libglib2.0-dev (as per #27).

dpkg -l | grep glib
# ii libglib2.0-0 2.32.4-0ubuntu1 GLib library of C routines
# ii libglib2.0-bin 2.32.4-0ubuntu1 Programs for the GLib library
# ii libglib2.0-data 2.32.4-0ubuntu1 Common files for GLib library
# ii libglib2.0-dev 2.32.4-0ubuntu1 Development files for the GLib library

And now I get conditional "ENABLE_SK" was never defined.:

You may need to ensure you have pkg-config installed on your system [1]

@eldog Thanks for the note. However, the logs I posted above have the following line:

# checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes

and I do have pkg-config installed:

dpkg -l | grep pkg-config
ii pkg-config 0.26-1ubuntu1 manage compile and link flags for libraries

The original repport is about missing pkg-config. The error message was quite ugly.
commit 4b08559 is fixing that.

Regarding the ENABLE_SK bug, please look at #37

Its quite old thread but I got similar error when trying to compile Thrift library on HP UX. I worked around this issue when I edited the file /usr/local/share/aclocal/glib.m4
AC_DEFUN(AM_PATH_GLIB, with AC_DEFUN([AM_PATH_GLIB],. I hope future searchers might get help here.
