While CKEditor comes packaged with bcms, we have been using FCKEditor for a lot of site. This is primarily because CKEditor does not include any functionality for browsing the server for images/files. In order to completely leave FCKEditor behind, we need to create a module that uses either CKFinder (which would carry a license fee) or an open source alternative (like KCFinder http://kcfinder.sunhater.com/)
Tasks:
Review CKFinder and KCFinder to determine how polished the two interfaces are, and how suitable they would be for non-technical editors/clients.
Determine rough cost of implementing the module.
Pick one and build it. A CKFInder module would need to carry a license fee, so we need to discuss what 'commercial' BrowserMedia modules would look like in practice. We might be able to do an OEM license for the module ($1400) or license the modules on an individual basis (>= $59).

Craig, please review KCFinder vs CKFinder to see if the usability benefits of the commercial module are significant enough to justify the license cost.
A response directly from the CKFinder staff was that due to the fact that CKFinder is a fully commercial application, it cannot be packaged with any open source software. KCFinder has dual licenses GPL and LGPL.
I reviewed both the modules and they are equal in regards to functionality and usability. Both applications are optimized for PHP so either one would require custom Rails code for integration.
For the sake of distribution, we should create a KCFinder module (bcms_kcfinder) which is LGPL licensed. I'm assigning this to Juan for the next set of actions. Adding this module should automatically hook in the CKEditor to allow users to browse the CMS repository for files, images and pages.
