The old version had very long lines, was repetitive, and didn't log enough information about the exception to debug it. The new version prints the message and full stack trace, and the code fits more neatly on my screen.
The config_var tool has been handy for processing configuration parameters for a plugin. It seems generic enough to roll into the Plugin class. Move the config_var class method and the initialize block into the Plugin class. Be sure to call "super" from the subclass's initialize method. Move the applicable examples into a separate plugin_spec.
I want to import a collection of quotes from an IRC Eggdrop plugin and make it accessible over Campfire. Store changes to the quote archive like the Eggdrop version, and rebuild an in-memory summary of the log each time a change is made. Allow adding new quotes with !addquote, removing existing quotes with !rmquote, and recalling quotes with !quote <id>, !quote <searchstr>, and !quote. Set the default quote recall command to be '!ourquote' instead of '!quote' so it can work out-of-the-box and still avoid clobbering the previously existing quote plugin.
This mimicks behavior of several of our eggdrop plugins.
