Overview

gmail2thunderbird converts a GMail contact list in CSV (outlook format) to LDIF for importing into Thunderbird.

Prerequisites

This script requires the ldif module from the python-ldap package.

(This can be installed on Ubuntu with apt-get install python-ldap.)

It's only been tested with python 2.6.

Usage

Export your contacts from GMail using the "Outlook CSV" format.

Assuming you saved the file as /tmp/contacts.csv, run gmail2thunderbird /tmp/contacts.csv /tmp/contacts.ldif.

In Thunderbird 3:

  1. Open the address book.
  2. Tools menu
  3. Import...
  4. Select Address Books, click Next.
  5. Select "Text file" click Next.
  6. Select /tmp/contacts.ldif, click Open.
  7. Everything will be imported. Click ok when prompted.
