There is need to clearly define, test and document states of product availability.

These are:

Live - the product can be seen and bought
Draft - the product exists in store / admin, but can't be seen or bought on the front-end.
Unavailable - the product is visible, but can't be bought. Eg: sold out temporarily.
Deleted - the product is not visible on front, or back end. Some history may be stored somewhere though.
