Removing this property means it will need to be calculated on each request, what's the benefit of removing it?

all other controllers are generated without it...
I believe it makes sense, since it was just a hack for php4, if I'm wrong...

Can't we do without the name property altogether in 2.x?

Probably, we use name to generate model names and view names, so it can't entirely be removed. But I guess its fine to remove this use of it.

the PagesController not use any model or views (by default)...
