Camdram has a (dubious!) markup format of its own creation in It needs some rough edges trimmed (e.g. many legitimate links are forbidden due to issues with the regex) but would probably be best to keep it rather than render old content incorrectly.

However, it's completely undocumented so most users don't know to enter links or formatting. Asking users to learn a syntax is a bit dated, but using something like and applying a quick filter to convert to our syntax would probably work. Alternatively as it seems to be just links that aren't plain HTML we could simply convert the old markup to HTML and then work with HTML directly.
